The Jelindel Chronicles have finished with this, the fourth and final book in the series, bringing it to an interesting conclusion. The heroes, Daretor, Zimak and Jelindel, continue to struggle against some of their old foes, Fa’red and the Preceptor, as their world fights to maintain its belief in magic. It is a complex story and moves between a number of paraworlds and locales as the friends split up, re-unite, split up again, re-unite and so on. It becomes a bit confusing as Daretor and Zimak had their bodies switched in the last book and this adds to the overall humour in the storyline as they abuse each other for the manner in which their host bodies get treated. |

| This is the first in the Ranger’s Apprentice series and is a great read for boys (and men) of all ages. Full of action, it describes Will’s time as an apprentice to the Ranger, Halt, and his first real mission to discover the nature of evil being plotted in his country. Great characterization, well-written action and engaging characters! |

Twilight is a vampire novel, but one with a difference. They still drink blood, they still have superhuman abilities but the coven of vampires who are at the heart of this story have a sense of morality. A sense of right and wrong, and this makes them interesting as characters and the narrative is an interesting journey. Narrated by Bella, a 17-year-old seemingly normal schoolgirl, the novel follows her as she falls in love with Edward, the young vampire who also attends school with her. I enjoyed the book, though it took a while for me to get involved with the characters. The first half and bits of the second move in the genre of teenage romance, lots of “I love him”’s and rapid heartbeats as they look deeply into each other’s eyes.
