Twilight is a vampire novel, but one with a difference. They still drink blood, they still have superhuman abilities but the coven of vampires who are at the heart of this story have a sense of morality. A sense of right and wrong, and this makes them interesting as characters and the narrative is an interesting journey. Narrated by Bella, a 17-year-old seemingly normal schoolgirl, the novel follows her as she falls in love with Edward, the young vampire who also attends school with her. I enjoyed the book, though it took a while for me to get involved with the characters. The first half and bits of the second move in the genre of teenage romance, lots of “I love him”’s and rapid heartbeats as they look deeply into each other’s eyes.
