English - Introduction PDF Print E-mail

English at Bundaberg SHS

Poetry, plays, films and novels are very much a part of English at Bundaberg SHS and we are proud of our tradition of academic excellence. We offer programs that prepare our students for an academic life as well as the workforce, but more importantly, enable them to function well in an increasingly complex world. Being able to communicate well – to read, write, speak and think about the ways language is used gives people power and control over their lives. We emphasise the importance of mastering the basics of language while encouraging students to explore the exciting world of modern literature and contemporary film and media. We encourage the development of computer literacy skills through the use of our computer labs and we encourage participation in debating, public speaking, literary competitions and excursions. Year 10 students are offered alternative pathways that prepare them for Senior English or vocational English. Our English results show that in both Senior and Junior English, we are performing better than the state average.
