ROTARY QUIZ NIGHT 2008 PDF Print E-mail
For many years the Rotary Club of Bundaberg East has conducted a General Knowledge quiz among the High Schools in our district. The quiz this year was conducted on Tuesday night, July 29. Adam Keyes, Brooke Philips and Courtney Rasmussen admirably represented Bundy High.
Categories of questions included Science, Maths, Technology, History, Geography, Sport, Arts-Literature. Courtney, Adam and Brooke worked together for the first six sets of questions, then contested the following two rounds as individuals along with the other representatives.
The knowledge of all the students (and attending teachers and parents) was rigorously tested. Consistent high scores were not at all easy to achieve. Our team members applied themselves admirably and achieved a most respectable result. The team winner this year was Shalom College whose representatives amassed an outstanding score.
How successful might you have been at the quiz? A sample of the questions follows. There were harder and easier questions as well:
Ø      Which of the following Plays by Shakespeare is not a Tragedy?
      Macbeth, Hamlet, Othello, Twelfth Night.
Ø      What are the three types of columns used in Greek architecture?
Ø      What is the capital of Taiwan?
Ø      What is the smallest country in Europe?
Ø      What nationality was Antarctic explorer Douglas Mawson?
Ø      What was a Greek Trireme?
Ø      If two angles of a triangle are 42° and 39°, what is the third?
Ø      What is the scale used to measure earthquakes?
Ø      In a packet of Smarties, if there are two red, four green and six blue lollies left, what is the probability of picking a green one at random?
Ø      Where will the 2012 Olympic Games be held?
Ø      In computer terms, what does TIFF represent?
Ø      What Microsoft product first appeared in 1985?
Ø      Who was the first woman to fly around the world, in 1937?
Brooke, Courtney and Adam - thanks for your cheerful participation. We can only surmise how difficult it was on occasions to negotiate and compromise quietly within the confines of group work. The school appreciates your effort and Mrs Holmes and Mr Venz enjoyed your company. Well done!
