Japanese Immersion Day @ USC

On Wednesday, the 3rd of May a group of 16 Bundy High students studying Japanese travelled to the Sunshine Coast to immerse themselves into the Japanese language and culture. Each year the Sunshine Coast University hosts a Japanese Immersion Day where students from all around the area get the opportunity to experience different activities to do with everyday life in Japan. These activities included Kanji play, karate, general Japanese conversation, mochi pounding and Calligraphy.  As well as these activities, this day gives the students a chance to make new friends with like-minded students who also have an interest in speaking Japanese.

On our way home from the Immersion Day we had the privilege to see and experience a traditional Japanese home which was made by hand in Kin Kin. Anthony, the owner and builder of the house has never been to Japan but was just fascinated with the Japanese architecture. He and his family of 4 live in this one of a kind home. The house was just like the homes that can be seen in Japan. Anthony’s detail to the architecture and design was very interesting to all the students.

All the students that participated had a brilliant day and we would like to thank Mrs Themsen and Mrs Wurzbacher for all their hard work in organising this day as well as Anthony for showing us about his wonderful home.
