I would like to take this opportunity to recognise the effort and commitment from our Yrs. 10 and 11 students who finished on Friday. Year 11 students have already received their Reports. Year 10 students will receive theirs in Week 11, along with the rest of the school.

I would like to recognise the truly positive results from the Year 11 cohort.

Having 81.7% of students achieving at C level or better is an outstanding effort. Our behaviour data indicates that we have 90% of students with a B or better for behaviour and 88% of students have an effort rating of C or better.

We should be very proud of these results. I thank our parent body for their continued support, the Senior Schooling team for their guidance and finally the students for their commitment to their education. The Senior Schooling team will be in contact with students and families to provide support and further guidance for those students who have not performed to their true potential or found some subjects difficult.

2024 has seen many significant achievements which were recognised at Awards Night.  In particular I wish to congratulate the Santalucia family bursary recipients who were recognised at Awards Night.

  • Jesse Hoger
  • Riley McKenzie
  • Tony Phan and
  • Kseniia Zaichenko

Congratulations also to Shaurya Jain who has been recognition as Junior Dux.

I would like to thank all of our sponsors for Awards night for their generous donations which have allowed our students to be recognised.

I would also like to thank the Awards Evening organising committee, primarily Josh Morris, Helen Glass, Kylie Hayman and Gail Kettle for their significant effort to make the evening such a success.

On the following Monday we recognised those students who gained Merit awards. I congratulate all students who received recognition at that event and thank Dan O'Brien for his professional organisation of the day.

We also farewelled our Year 12 Students. I recognise the significant contribution this cohort has made to our school and look forward to the end of year results. Thank you again to the Senior Schooling team for a fitting farewell.

Friday, 22 November we had our Year 9 Celebration dinner at the RSL. This was a great opportunity to mark the successful completion of Junior School and move into Senior. I thank all of the staff who have organised this event. The students truly enjoyed the evening and danced the night away.

Our students will have the opportunity to engage in rewards trips at the end of the year. I congratulate all students who received an invitation and wish you an enjoyable day, celebrating with your peers and teachers.

As mentioned previously we have an additional week of school this year. Week 11 starting on December 9 will see an Alternate Program run at Bundaberg SHS. A range of additional programs and supports will be provided with external agencies running some additional programs for students.

Please encourage and support your child to engage at school to the end of the year and complete all assessment to the best of their ability. It is our aim to 'Reach for the Stars' and provide the best learning environment to support student success.

We will send to all parents, communication about the start of the school year with dates and updated expectations.

We have engaged in an extensive consultation process around our Annual Implementation Plan for 2025. Our key priorities are

  • To improve student engagement
  • To enhance assessment literacy, curriculum delivery and differentiated pedagogy to improve student outcomes
  • To improve Staff Wellbeing

I have attached the actual draft plan for your consideration. Please provide any feedback to the principal email address (Principal@bundabergshs.eq.edu.au) with the subject tag of AIP Feedback so we can consider this prior to the end of year.

We have at Bundaberg SHS a Local Consultative Education Board who support us with advice and guidance around First Nation Student outcomes and plans. We have a few positions available on this board for community members who wish to apply. The position is supported with Consolation Fees and would typically be filled by a person who identifies as First Nations. There are generally 2 meeting per term. Please indicate your willingness to apply by sending an email to Principal@bundabergshs.eq.edu.au with the Subject of LCEB expression of interest.

Lastly, you may be aware that I am taking up the role of principal at Bundaberg North SHS in 2025. Michael Kiss, the substantive principal at Avoca SS has been appointed as principal whilst Chris Gill continues leading the Bundaberg Precinct initiative. I wish Michael all the best for 2025.

I look forward to the remaining three weeks of school.
