Windows S mode

A lot of devices that students buy for school as "new" devices are sold by Microsoft in Windows S mode. That creates problems when it comes to installing software, such as the NAPLAN browser or Minecraft. It costs nothing to change the mode from S to Home or Professional.

To check if your laptop is in Windows S mode, go to Settings, then type in "Activation". The Activation screen will show what version of Windows you have. If you have S mode and you wish to change, click on the link below it to go to the Windows Store and change it quickly and for free.

Minecraft for Years 7, 8 and 9

Many students enjoy playing Minecraft and it is actually licensed for free for students at Bundaberg SHS in Junior year levels. They do need to download the Education version from the Windows store and then sign in with their school credentials.

Connecting to the network

The connection can even be done at home provided the student knows their EQ school username and password. Once the steps are followed, they are automatically joined and ready to go!

Windows and Apple devices will work on the school Wi-Fi network. However, Chromebooks and other Android powered devices aren't supported. Student's are not permitted to hotspot devices to their phones.

New Laptop for School?

If you log in with your school EQ account to your Microsoft Office app (e.g. Word, Excel, etc) while at home it will also ask if you want to register your device (for school), if you do this your device will automatically connect to the school Wi-Fi when you're at school (i.e. EQNET Wi-Fi).
